Why searching for parking is harder than it should be

Most parking in Indian cities is invisible until you are standing in front of it. Society basements, shop forecourts, gated plots and driveways sit empty for most of the day, but a driver circling the block has no way of knowing they exist. Meanwhile the parking a map does show you is usually the handful of commercial lots that pay to be listed — often full, often further away than something a hundred metres behind you.

The gap is not a shortage of space. It is a shortage of information about space. ParkingNearby exists to close that gap: it makes privately owned parking discoverable, and it gives the people who own that space a reason to make it discoverable.

How to find a parking space near you, step by step

  • 1. Open the app and let it read your locationSpaces around you appear with distance, price and current availability. Location is only requested at the moment the map needs it, and you can decline and search a city centre instead.
  • 2. Filter for what your vehicle actually needsNarrow by vehicle type, and switch on the Charging filter if you also need to plug in — that hides every space without a working charger.
  • 3. Spend one credit to unlock the spaceListings stay blurred until you commit. One credit reveals the exact pin and the owner's contact details. The blur is deliberate: it stops addresses being scraped in bulk from owners who never agreed to that.
  • 4. Reserve ahead, or just drive thereSend a booking request if you want the space held, or tap once for turn-by-turn directions to the precise pin rather than to the middle of the street.
  • 5. Scan the QR at the gateScanning in starts the session and scanning out ends it, so you and the owner hold the same record of exactly when the space was used. That record is what settles a disagreement about time.

What it costs

There are two separate things to pay for, and keeping them separate is the point. The parking itself is paid to the owner, directly, at the price shown on the listing — ParkingNearby does not take a cut of it and does not add a booking fee. What you buy from ParkingNearby is credits, in packs, inside the app; a credit is what unlocks a space you have decided you want.

This is why the price you see on a listing is the price you pay. There is no service charge revealed at checkout, because there is no checkout.

What happens if the owner does not respond

A booking request that nobody confirms expires on its own after 12 hours. You are never left holding an open request against a space that was never going to be available, and the space is never held hostage by a request the owner missed.

How listings are kept honest

Owners have to declare that they own or control the space they are listing. Every listing is moderated before it goes live. Drivers and owners can both report a problem, reports are reviewed by a person, and QR check-in means every session leaves a timestamped trail rather than two conflicting memories.

Common questions

How do I find and book a parking spot?

Open the app and you'll see trusted spots around you with distance, price and availability. Spend one credit to unlock the exact location and owner details, then either reserve ahead or tap once for directions to the precise pin.

What are credits, and why do I need one to unlock a spot?

Listings stay blurred until you commit, which protects owners from their address being scraped. One credit reveals one spot's exact location and owner contact. Credits are bought in packs inside the app.

How do I pay for the parking itself?

You pay the owner directly at the spot, at the price shown on the listing. There are no hidden platform fees on top of it.

What is the QR check-in for?

Scan the QR at the gate to start your parking session, and scan out when you leave. It gives both you and the owner a clear, shared record of exactly when the space was used.

What happens if the owner doesn't confirm my booking?

An unconfirmed booking expires automatically after 12 hours, so you're never left waiting on a request that nobody answered.

How do you keep listings honest and parking safe?

Owners declare ownership of the space they list, every listing is moderated, and both drivers and owners can report a problem. Reports are reviewed by our team, and QR check-in keeps every session accountable.
